GlaxoSmithKline has made a hire signaling its commitment to digital health. Karenann Terrell, former Chief Information Officer at Walmart, will start at GSK in the newly created role of Chief Digital and Technology Officer.

“The impact of technology on the healthcare industry is accelerating and requires us to rethink our approach,” CEO Emma Walmsley said in a statement. “As a member of the Executive Team, Karenann will have the scope to think radically about how we can exploit the latest opportunities and ultimately improve our business performance.”

Terrell’s responsibilities will include developing a digital, data and analytics strategy and working with healthcare partners on innovating areas like clinical trials and drug development.

DexCom announced on its Q2 earnings call that it has filled its CFO position that has been open since Jess Roper resigned April 1st. Quentin Blackford will take over in September for interim CFO Kevin Sun.

Athenahealth founder Jonathan Bush will go from having three titles at the company — chairman, president, and CEO — to just having one. Bush will continue to serve as CEO as the company recruits a new president, who will report to Bush, and a new independent chairperson. The changes are part of a larger effort by the company’s board to target $100 million in savings.

“The Board is committed to acting in the best interests of all athenahealth shareholders,” Lead Director Brandon Hull said in a statement. “In addition to the review, we believe that the governance enhancements and additional depth of talent we are seeking will most effectively enable us to execute on the initiatives announced today and deliver value to shareholders. We are committed to these changes and we look forward to successfully executing upon them.”

Now that we’ve proven our outcomes, we have to scale our delivery model. Dr. Berwick’s experience in improving healthcare quality and outcomes globally is going to be invaluable in this process.”

Pharmacy benefits engagement company RxEOB has hired Dr. Ken Kolb in the role of vice president of pharmacy analytics. Kolb will be responsible for the development of clinical content, pharmacy analytics, and outcomes analysis.

Oscar said in a statement. “RxEOB excels at providing personalized communications to members resulting in better access, improved care quality and even lower care costs. Ken’s track record of optimizing technology to provide better health care outcomes is well known, and he will help us in our mission to add value for our members.”
